Softball Opens Series With Solid Effort Over Alcorn State

Daryn Haslam went 4-for-5 while Destinee Dixon scored four runs as TSU opened its home series against Alcorn State with a 10-3 win on Friday at Memorial Park.
 
TSU scored the game's first run in the first as Dixon scored on a fielder's choice from Madison Griggs. An error allowed ASU to knot it at 1-all in the second but TSU regained a 2-1 lead in the third as Madison Battle singled home Dixon. The Tigers broke it open in the fourth as Dixon and Haslam reached base and Dixon scored on Griggs' RBI. Battle drew a walk which set up Lanay Carr's two-RBI single. Angel Morales singled home Battle for a 6-1 lead.
 
Haslam's two-run homer in the fifth upped the lead to 8-1 but a TSU error allowed ASU to score twice in the sixth as they trailed 8-3. An ASU error with the bases loaded allowed TSU to score its ninth run followed by Pam Richardson's RBI groundout as Morales scored the final run.
 
Haslam went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. Dixon finished 3-for-3 with four runs while Griggs had was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run. Carr and Morales both had two hits while Carr had two RBI. Lailah Bell went the distance on the mound and only allowed three hits while striking out three.
 
Due to expected inclement weather, TSU is back in action for a 10 a.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
